Neighbors coming together to create a beautiful and welcoming space

A COMMUNITY PROJECT
BERNAL HEIGHTS, SAN FRANCISCO

We are neighbors working to transform a neglected and weed-strewn street into a children’s playground, a community gathering place, and a safe and comfortable place to wait for the bus.

The 400 block of Ogden Avenue (between Folsom and Gates) is an “unaccepted” street, meaning it is not maintained by the city. It has no sidewalk. Yet, it is a much-traveled pathway to the bus stop, for local parents walking their toddlers to Ana’s Childcare, and for neighbors walking their dogs.

Imagine a neighborhood park

Where young children have a place to play and learn, where pedestrians no longer need to dodge oncoming cars, where elders and people with mobility issues can safely traverse to the bus stop, and where the community can come together for events. Where stormwater is diverted from our overtaxed sewer system through rain gardens and other green infrastructures. Where butterflies and bees find a haven in native plantings. And where the historic diversity and welcoming spirit of Bernal Heights is celebrated. This is our vision for the Ogden Avenue Gardens.
